Nicaragua Education Culture and Arts Trust

The Nicaragua Education Culture and Arts Trust (NECAT) is a registered charity working to alleviate poverty and provide education through the medium of cultural and artistic intiatives in the area of León, Nicaragua. We seek to do this by:

Running a centre for 'Reforzamiento Escolar' (After-school Educational Support) in the William Fonseca barrio on the outskirts of León. The classes and activities are run every weekday afternoon. class in William Fonseca
Fundraising in the UK for our activities in Nicaragua.  Events such as barn dances, art sales, tombolas for a regular part of our activities. The painting shown opposite was a contribution from the children of the project to an art sale held in Aylesbury in December 2005. painting
Supporting UK volunteers who wish to visit or particpate in our project

A number of volunteers have travelled to Nicaragua to volunteer on our project. We welcome such applications. For those of you who do volunteer we can promise an insight into the lives of Nicaraguan people and a fascinating experience. Teaching qualifications as such are not necessary but some ability with Spanish would be an advantage.
